Education systems play a crucial role in shaping the future of societies. However, they have long grappled with power dynamics between students and teachers, creating an environment that is often discouraging rather than encouraging. As an edtech founder, I deeply understand the challenges faced by education systems. We need a change and a student-centered approach to structuring education.
As the school year approaches, I ask all educators and school leaders to consider this post as a call for change! We need to address the following issues with the education system to build a better future for our students.
Low Morale and Lack of Empathy:
Low school spirit, teacher morale, and a lack of empathy for underserved students contribute to a toxic learning environment. Educators who are burnt out, underpaid, and lacking proper resources find it challenging to provide the quality education students deserve. Fostering a positive and supportive environment is essential for student success.
Teacher Retention Rate:
High turnover rates among teachers pose a significant challenge to education systems. Insufficient support, heavy workloads, and limited professional development opportunities lead to disillusionment and hinder the continuity of education. Ensuring teachers are adequately supported and valued is crucial for student growth.
Socioeconomic Status and Parent Engagement:
Socioeconomic disparities can have a profound impact on students’ educational experiences. Education systems must address these disparities by implementing equitable policies and providing support tailored to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Encouraging parent engagement and creating partnerships between schools and families can help bridge these gaps.
Language Barriers in STEM Subjects:
Language barriers can create obstacles for students, especially in STEM subjects. Providing targeted language support and resources can help students overcome these challenges and foster their success in these fields. Creating inclusive classrooms that celebrate diversity and cultural exchange is vital for all students to thrive.

By connecting LATAM-based tutors to underserved students in the US, Papaya creates living-wage opportunities for tutors abroad and democratizes access to high quality education for underserved low-income communities in the US.

The bigger picture:
To create effective and inclusive education systems, we must address the power dynamics, teacher burnout, and inadequate resources that hinder student growth.
By focusing on individual needs, promoting empathy, and prioritizing teacher support, we can transform education systems into nurturing environments. It is essential to bridge educational gaps, engage parents, and provide tailored support to underserved students. Together, let’s advocate for change and work towards a future where every student receives a quality education that unlocks their full potential.
